Abdul Salim Ahmed Ibrahim
Abdul Salim Ahmed Ibrahim or Salim as he is generally called, is one of the 4 founding members of CIVIC Legal LLC. He has been in practice for 28 years and has accumulated a wealth of experience in civil and criminal litigation. Over the past 28 years, he has practiced in general civil litigation work, criminal law, mediation, sports law, family law, Syariah law but has specialized mainly in insurance law and personal injuries claims. Salim has represented clients in numerous high value claims including a $16 million claim arising from whiplash and spinal injuries. Widely regarded as a senior member of the Personal Injuries/Property Damage (PIPD) bar, he has served 2 terms as the Co-Vice Chairman of the PIPD Committee of the Law Society.
About Salim
Salim has a deep passion for mediation and has more than 10 years of experience as a mediator, mediation advocate, trainer, coach and assessor. He is a Principal Mediator of the Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC) and The State Courts and has completed mediation courses at Harvard University and Regent’s University London. He currently serves as a Mediator for the Court of Arbitration for Sport and has also been appointed as a Certified International Mediator for the Asian Institute for Alternative Dispute Resolution (AIADR).
Salim has been actively involved in the sporting arena and has been appointed to serve as a Member of the Anti-Doping Results Management Committee/ Disciplinary Committee in the SEA Games 2015, ASEAN Para Games 2015, ASEAN University Games 2016, SEA Games 2017 and ASEAN Para Games 2017. Salim also served as a Member of the ad-hoc Disciplinary and Ethics Committee of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) for the Suzuki Cup 2018 and the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee in the AFF U-22 Championship 2019. In September 2018, Salim successfully completed the Certificate Programme in Sports Arbitration at the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) in Kuala Lumpur. To date, Salim has been involved in 22 tribunal hearings at national and regional levels and has chaired 9 of them. In 2020 and 2021, Salim was invited as a panel speaker on the subject of Sports Law in international webinars organized by AIAC and the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.
Salim embodies the name of the firm and firmly believes in his civic duty to serve others. He has been a passionate advocate and proponent for pro-bono and volunteer work and has served in legal, political, community, sports, social, religious and cultural organisations. Set out below are some of the positions and appointments that he has served and is currently serving.
Current positions and appointments
- Active volunteer of the State Courts since 2010 and recipient of a 10-year long service award in 2020.
- Member of the Inquiry Panel under The Legal Profession Act since November 2021. (The Inquiry Panel reviews and enquires into complaints against advocates and solicitors for misconduct.)
- Member of the Singapore Medical Council’s Complaints Panel under the Medical Registration Act since December 2014. (The Complaints Panel reviews and inquires complaints against doctors and recommends sanctions to the Singapore Medical Council.)
- Member of the Singapore Pharmacy Board’s Complaints Panel convened under the Pharmacists Registration Act. (Members of the Complaints Panel may be appointed to a Complaints Committee or Disciplinary Committee for the inquiry and disposal of complaints against registered pharmacists.)
- Member of the Allied Health Professions Council’s Complaints Panel convened under the Pharmacists Registration Act. (Members of the Complaints Panel may be appointed to a Complaints Committee or Disciplinary Tribunal for the inquiry and disposal of complaints against registered allied health professionals.)
- Member of the Selection Panel for the School of Law, Singapore University of Social Sciences since 2016.
- Co-Vice Chairman of the Personal Injury & Property Damage (PIPD) Committee of The Law Society of Singapore in 2019 and 2020.
- Assessor under Part 8C of the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) Act to determine applications for a purchaser’s reimbursement claim against a developer.
- Chairman of Appeals Committee of the Football Association of Singapore since 2017.
- Board Member of Anti-Doping Singapore since 2010.
- Member of the World Anti-Doping Agency’s Continental Results Management Panel for Asia/Oceania with effect from 1 October 2021.
- Trustee of the Board of Trustees of Sultan Mosque since 2012.
- Recipient of a Public Service Medal / Pingat Bakti Masyarakat (PBM) in the National Day Awards 2013.
